The Muskegon Sportfishing Association is constantly hard at work on multiple projects at a time. Listed below are a few of the types of projects we have funded.

  • New floating docks at three of the City of Muskegon's boat launch facilities. The donation consisted of 6 floating docks with an approximate cost of $25,000.
  • Contributed $25,000 to the Annis Water Resources Institute at Grand Valley State University on Muskegon Lake.
  • Donated to Trout Unlimited $5,000 for Cedar Creek restoration.
  • Provided a trailer to Sportsman for Youth at a cost of $3,277.
  • Sponsor an annual fishing derby at Fisherman's Landing for families in the summer on Muskegon Lake. All revenue earned is returned as prizes.
  • Annual Salmon Shoot-Out on Lake Michigan out of the port of Muskegon. In 2005, contributed 1,100 pounds of salmon filets to a number of local food banks.
  • Paid for the construction of an office and fish cleaning station at Fisherman's Landing, a launch site and campground owned by the City of Muskegon, approximate cost of $15,000.
  • Donated $5,000 to Tom Hamilton, a former fish biologist with Michigan's DNR for Walleye research.
  • Donated $45,000 for the planting of Walleye and Bass.
  • Established a fund with the Muskegon County Community Foundation to protect, enhance and develop habitat and natural resources that support sport fishing in Muskegon County. Present fund balance is approximately $39,000.
  • Donated approximately $2,000 to Reeths-Puffer Intermediate School to fund the "Salmon in the Classroom" project. Students raise and learn about the salmon, later releasing the salmon in the Muskegon River.
